What does “preliminary practice” of Tibetan Buddhism mean? It means preparatory practice. Despite the fact that ultimately we need to attain the wisdom of emptiness, without laying a solid foundation of cultivating renunciation and bodhicitta, we are not able to realise emptiness.

Lord Buddha said, “You can pursue happiness, which is the right of humankind and the right of life. Nonetheless, happiness resulted from the material things is very unreliable. Therefore, while enjoying the happiness brought by material things such as eating, drinking, playing and so forth, we should be seeking for more noble and sublime happiness that comes within our mind. Happiness can also arise from pursuing meaningful work or the work that brings great contribution.

In Nagarjuna's "Letter to a Friend”, there is a verse that says, "It has been said by the Buddha that among all wealth, contentment is the greatest. Be content. If you are content, then even if you possess no wealth, you'll be perfectly rich." Buddha has skillfully instructed us to recognize that contentment is the best kind of wealth. Therefore, we need to abide in contentment with less desire; a person who is content is truly rich even without any material wealth. Such a person can attain ultimate bliss.

Everyone of us needs to practice dharma, including me. Because as ordinary beings, we haven’t dispelled defilements and are not free from cyclic existence. Having attained precious human life in this lifetime, we need to cherish it. If missing this opportunity, I’m afraid we’ll miss the only opportunity in many lifetimes and eons henceforth.

Today the way we treat animals has reached to a rather cruel state, but everyone accepts it and sees it as natural. Such acts will come back to humans themselves. Eventually, humans will be divided into different three, six, nine or more castes. The underprivileged will be treated the similar way as animals are treated.

Don’t ask me who is your yidam deity. Without renunciation and bodhicitta, no one wants to be your yidam deity.

If you want to get rich, the best method is to make offerings and give generously—giving to the poor and making offerings to the three jewels. This is the only way to see results in this world.

If mankind has conviction in law of karma, it will not result in any loss, but rather mankind will lead a more peaceful, happier, harmonious life. The law of karma is the most justified law in universe, the hell realm is the most vicious prison in universe; these things can be verified.

If having gained an understanding of discerning right from wrong, we can utilise the suffering and engage in many activities which are beneficial to this life, and future lives. It also make us realise how vital it is to purify obscurations, then proceeding to practice Vajrasattva with the four remedial powers devotedly; in this way, we can transform suffering into the favourable conditions for attaining liberation.
